The vessel based on the proprietary design Petrofac JSD 6000 will be available for construction and installation activities in early 2017.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
The vessel will boast 2,000 metric tonnes J-Lay tower, 5,000 metric tonnes revolving main crane and four deck cranes, two deepwater 750-metric tonne winches, and 600 metric tonnes S-Lay tensioners and pipe handling equipment.
The high-end specifications will allow the vessel to access turnkey opportunities in the deepwater and SURF markets, and expand access to shallow water EPCI projects, according to Petrofac.
“With more than 30 years of designing, developing, building and operating fixed facilities, both onshore and offshore, and more than a decade in subsea field development and engineering, our move into the deepwater market is a natural progression,” said Ayman Asfari, group chief executive of Petrofac.
