Maersk has officially launched commercial operation of multi-country consolidation centre (MCC) in Shanghai Lingang free trade zone.

The aim of the centre is to promote international container transit and consolidation service at Shanghai.

The first batch of import containers were from Hong Kong and Taiwan, after consolidation at Shanghai port, it will be transported to US, Czech Republic, Spain, France, Portugal, and Slovakia.

Additionally, Maersk also launched coastal carriage service on exports to enhance shipping hub service capability of Shanghai. The first batch of container cargos will be shipped to Shanghai via Maersk's vessel Maersk Laguna from South America and then head to ports in Europe and US, seven days shorter compared with the former shipping route.

Maersk started its MCC trial services at Lingang in December 2023.
