Thai-based Regional Container Lines (RCL) is preparing to invest in new vessels to replace older tonnage and expand its capacity.

RCL reveals plans for more new vessels following the naming of its latest newbuilding 1,930 teu Nattha Bhum. RCL invested $27.25m in the Nattha Bhum which was named at a ceremony in Thailand recently.

Twinchok Tanthuwanit, President of RCL said that the company is looking to expand its services in markets with high growth potential including India, Middle East, and Africa.

In tandem with this RCL is preparing to invest in more new vessels to replace older vessels in its fleet, increase capacity, and improve environmental performance.

The Nattha Bhum is a Bangkokmax vessel, the largest size capable of calling Bangkok Port on the Chao Praya River. The vessel is scrubber-fitted.

The naming was attended by Thiraphong Chansiri, President & CEO of Thai Union Group PCL, and his wife Pornnapa Chansiri, who was sponsor of the new vessel.
