Unifeeder adds two more methanol feeder vessels

Unifeeder Group has signed long-term charters for two more feeder vessels for its European network.

The 1,250 teu pair are due for delivery in 2026, one each from German shipowner Elbdeich Reederei and Norwegian shipowner MPC Container Ships (MPCC). The deal builds on charters made in October 2023 for two similar vessels from Elbdeich Reederei.

X-Press feeders recently announced that Evergreen had agreed to place containers on its methanol vessels in Europe from the second quarter of 2024, a further sign of emerging methanol-fuelled feeder infrastructure in Europe.

Jesper Kristensen, Group CEO of Unifeeder Group, said: “Building upon our commitment to methanol-powered vessels last year, this marks another significant stride towards the green transformation of our fleet and operations.

Unifeeder has committed to a 25% reduction of emissions by 2030 and net-zero by 2050 with no new fossil greenhouse gas emissions, going beyond the industry’s global targets. The new methanol vessels contribute to these goals, and the company said it will further pursue vessel efficiency improvements and fleet retrofits.
