Power and propulsion packages have been supplied to the largest ever vessel constructed at Ulstein Verft yard in Norway.
Due for delivery in Q3 2015 to Island Ventures 11, a joint venture between US firm Edison houest Offshore and Norway’s Island Offshore, the SX165-design vessel will be 28 m and 145.7 m long, with accommodation for 200 people.
ABB’s scope of supply includes two ABB medium voltage generators, switchboards, transformers, frequency converters and motors, which will allow the vessel to operate its 400 ton and 140 ton cranes while its Dynamic Positioning (DP3) system holds it steady.
Meanwhile, the second vessel to be equipped is a Rolls-Royce UT777 subsea vessel, to be supplied to Island Offshore. The vessel will be employed on subsea operations such as top hole drilling, light well intervention, subsea construction and inspection, as well as maintenance and repair work.
Constructed at Kawasaki Heavy Industries and set to be delivered in 2017, the vessel will be fitted with ABB medium voltage generators, switchboards including power management system, transformers, frequency converters and motors, as well as a fire & gas monitoring system, and control systems for fire and gas detection.
"ABB’s advanced power system and remote diagnostic system will maximize the operational flexibility and safety.” said Heikki Soljama, head of ABB Marine and Cranes. “We look forward to cooperating in the projects and to delivering high quality services to these pioneering new ships.”
