Optimarin wins 10-vessel ballast water order from Atlantis Tankers
Norwegian supplier Optimarin has won a contract to provide systems for eight existing vessels and two newbuilds, from chemical tanker owner Atlantis Tankers Group and its Turkish management arm Armona Denizcilik.

The first two systems will be installed on newbuilds Atlantis Augusta and Atlantis Alicante this year. The further batch of eight systems are set for delivery in 2019 and will be installed during special survey dry docking throughout 2019/2020. The tankers range from 3,446 to 6,416 dwt and are all designed for the transport of IMO II classified chemical cargoes.

Citing system’s recent EX approval, which satisfies all Zone 1 ATEX requirements for operation in hazardous areas, Optimarin ceo Tore Andersen said: “EX approval was essential for Atlantis Tankers and Armona Denizcilik. This is a contract that encompasses both newbuilds and retrofits, so it was important to be able to demonstrate our ability in both.”

Norway’s Optimarin recently became the first UV system supplier to pass the USCG’s marine water tests, with full USCG approval expected this spring.

The USCG’s BWM requirements have become the more pressing this year after it transpired that IMO’s BWM Convention has not been sufficiently ratified to enter force in 2016.
