Stolt and Trafigura cooperate on London bitumen facility
Stolt-Nielsen and Trafigura have announced they are to cooperate on the development of a bitumen storage and distribution centre in the UK.

Once a new storage area is developed at Stolt-Nielsen's terminal in Dagenham, London, the centre is due to be brought online in the middle of 2015 with a storage capacity of 20,000 tonnes.

The commodities trading and logistics company is expected to invest GBP15m ($25m) in the site over ten years.

"Bitumen is an increasingly global product with long range arbitrage becoming ever more common. This terminal will allow us to widen the UK's supply options," commented Trafigura UK and Ireland commercial manager, John Bell.

Stolthaven Terminals president Walter Wattenbergh added, "We are delighted to welcome Trafigura as a customer to Stolthaven Dagenham. This long-term bitumen agreement is a good example of the kind of customer-specific storage and handling solution that we can provide at the Dagenham terminal, as we continue to enhance and expand this facility."

Bitumen supply at the terminal is likely to be handled by Puma Energy, a company in which Trafigura is a key shareholder, adding to Puma's current experience with terminals across Africa, Asia Pacific and Central America.
