The concession is for 49 hectares known as the Bastenaken West property located in the inner port of Zeebrugge and WWL will invest $20m over the next two years to develop the area.
“The agreement marks the next step in WWL’s long-term commitment to the Port of Zeebrugge, the largest ro-ro port in the world, and positions the company for continued growth and expansion all across Northern Europe,” said Ray Fitzgerald, president & coo WWL Landbased.
WWL has been in the Port of Zeebrugge since 1999 and last year the port handled 2.8m units of cargo and is an important hub for the Norwegian shipowner.
“Both WWL and the Port of Zeebrugge have experienced significant growth together over the last two decades, and this expansion paves the way for an exciting future,” said Hendrik Sohier, terminal manager, WWL Zeebrugge.
