Another OOCL SX-class ship hits the water
OOCL christened its newest 8,888 teu newbuilding at a naming ceremony held at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding’s Changxing Island yard in Shanghai on Tuesday.

The latest addition to the group's fleet of SX-class ships, the OOCL Taipei was christened by Sponsor Mrs Mylene Seah, wife of DBS Bank chairman Peter Seah, and will be serving the transpacific trade, linking markets in Asia and North America.

At the ceremony, Orient Overseas (International) Limited chairman CC Tung emphasized the importance of successful business partnerships. He expressed thanks to longtime partners such as shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua as well as DBS Bank for their continued support to OOCL.

Especially, in appreciation of its financial support, OOCL had as its special guests for the occasion, representatives of DBS Bank, including its chairman, who was the Guest of Honor.


“Mr Seah’s presence here today means a great deal to us,” noted Tung.  “We really appreciate DBS Bank for their continued support in providing us with the quality financial services that they are well known for.”

In turn, Seah also thanked OOCL for the years of collaboration and the invitation to join in the special occasion. 

OOCL Taipei is the fifth of the eight 8,888 teu vessels that OOCL is building at Hudong-Zhonghua.  She will begin her service on OOCL’s Trans-Pacific CEC (China East Coast Express) service with the following port rotation: New York / Savannah / Charleston / Norfolk / via Suez Canal / Jeddah / Singapore / Cai Mep / Hong Kong / Shekou / Yantian / Singapore / New York.
