The MR tankers come at a cost of nearly $29m each, a saving over two similar ships it order in December at $32m each. The vessels bring d'Amico's recent ordering spree to a total of eight vessels in six months and are scheduled for delivery mid 2014.
The vessels are the latest IMO II MR design, entailing highly efficient hull shape and propulsion efficiency, with d’Amico claiming a fuel saving of 6-7 tonnes per day compared to existing world MR fleet averages. The high EEDI rating will surpass today’s IMO requirements by 31.5%, and will be sufficient to pass the IMO phase-in 3 requirement for newbuilds, commencing on 1st Jan 2025, the company reports.
Commenting on the order, Marco Fiori, ceo at d’Amico said "We strongly believe these types of vessels are set to be the future of our industry and their estimated timing of delivery perfectly matches our positive market outlook on the medium/long term."
"Upon delivery these two ships will be the most advanced and efficient in terms of speed, consumption and deadweight & draft ratios among their size. These technical improvements will permit to improve current time charter equivalent rate revenue by an amount of at least US$ 3,000 per day," he added.
