Mitsui & Co christens LNG carrier Marvel Heron

Mitsui & Co has christened a second LNG carrier under construction at Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. to serve the Cameron LNG Project in the US.

The Marvel Heron was christened on Friday at the Koyagi Plant of MHI’s Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works and Mitsui representative director and executive managing officer Yoshio Kometani proclaimed the formal christening, while Mrs. Kometani performed the ceremonial rope cut.

The 177,000 cu m vessel is equipped with apple-shaped tanks refined from MOSS-type spherical tanks. Sistership Marvel Crane was delivered to Mitsui on 28 March and is now in service.

Both LNG carriers are named after migratory birds.
