Container volume at Tianjin port hits record in Q1

The northeastern Chinese port of Tianjin posted a container volume of 4.63m teu in the first quarter, an increase of 3.5% year-on-year, hitting a new high.

The port has actively expanded market and promoted the combination of sea-rail transportation this year, including the opening of a new direct service between China and Australia.

Combined sea-rail transportation volume at Tianjin port also increase 20% year-on-year in Q1.

At the beginning of this year, Jinhai ro-ro terminal at Tianjin port officially launched operation, adding 500,000 units of car equivalent annual handling capacity. 

The digital terminal operation and navigation system initiated this year also helped the port to improve 12% berthing efficiency of containerships.
