Pearl river cargo volume exceeds 1bn tons

The cargo volume moved on China’s Pearl river hit a record high in 2019, exceeding 1bn tons for the first time.

In 2019, the inland waterway transportation volume of Pearl river continued increasing and achieved 1bn tons mark, an increase of 5.5% year-on-year. Container throughput reached 14m teu, an increase of 13.4% year-on-year.

Currently, Pearl river region has 32 inland river ports, running around 1700 productive berths, with an annual handling capacity of 600m tons.

According to Zhujiang (Pearl river) Aviation Management Bureau, the authority will further promote waterway transport facility construction in west China this year and strengthen the connection between inland region and coastal area.
