The landmark sees it becoming the first container port in north China to handle 20m teu container cargo annually.
The port’s inland and sea-rail combined cargo volume increased 20% year-on-year and reached 1m teu.
“The 20m teu container volume proved that Qingdao has been developed from a portal to a cargo handling hub,” said Li Fengli, general manager of Shangdong Provincial Port Group. Qingdao port will work with the industry players to construct a logistics hub and an intelligent green port, Li added.
Currently, Qingdao port has calls from 173 container routes, including ten newly opened foreign trade container shipping routes in 2019.
Earlier this year, Shandong established Shandong Provincial Port Group, integrating the major ports in the province, including Qingdao Port, Yantai Port, Rizhao Port and the Bohai Bay Port Group, to improve local port competitiveness.
