The company plans to purchase and build two 6,800 bhp tugboats, one 5,000 bhp tugboat and one 4,000 bhp tugboat at a total cost of around CNY160m ($25m).

The construction period for the newbuildings will be 14 months.

Xiamen Port Holding said that the purchase of the tugboats would meet the growing demands for towage in the coming three years and the expansion of offshore business at Quanzhou port, Xiamen bay and neighbouring port areas.

Currently, Xiamen Port Holding operates a fleet of 34 tugboats.
