Monday 5 September marked 50 years since the container vessel Tokyo Bay made the debut call at the at the first container terminal in Hong Kong.
By 2014 Modern Terminals had handled 100m teu in its Hong Kong terminals, and this number has now increased to over 140m teu.
Hong Kong was to grow to be the largest container port in the world before the rise of ports in mainland China. In 2021 Hong Kong ranked as the world’s eighth largest container port.
Today Modern Terminals operates seven container berths in Hong Kong port with an annual capacity of 7m teu.
