Malaysia’s Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has carried out its first LNG bunkering operation for a CMA CGM car carrier.

The joint venture between MMC Group and APM Terminals completed an LNG bunker operation for the 2024-built car carrier CMA CGM Monaco. The bunkering was carried out in partnership with Petronas Trading Corporation Sendirian Berhad (PETCO) and CMA CGM.

Mark Hardiman, Chief Executive Officer of PTP commented, “In preparation for the LNG bunkering operation, PTP worked closely since March 2022 with PETCO and CMA CGM, as well as with various other related government agencies to organise table-top exercises (TTX) and workshops, before carrying out the deployment exercise.”

PTP is aiming for more LNG bunkering business following its first successful delivery operation.

“This milestone paves the way for further growth in LNG bunkering at PTP, contributing significantly to the decarbonisation of the maritime industry,” said Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, Chairman of PTP.

PTP ranks as the world’s 15th largest container port with a capacity to handle 13 million teu annually. It is primarily focused on transhipment business.
