Pole Star announces launch of Fleet Management 2.0

Pole Star Space Applications today announced that Fleet Management (FM) 2.0, the latest release of its web-based tracking solution for shipowners, operators and charterers, has been rolled out free to its existing FM customers. With a new user-interface, new features and feature enhancements, FM 2.0 delivers improved usability and efficiency for its users.

“With the release of version 2.0, we have given FM a brand new look and feel. It’s more modern and easier to use than ever before. Plus, we have added some brand new features and enhanced some familiar ones.” commented Peter Davies, Chief Technology Officer.

FM 2.0 introduces new features and enhancements, including;

Mobile-optimised user interface allowing users to access their account on a smartphone, tablet, desktop, laptop or other internet enabled device;

Three new map options, including: street, hybrid and satellite maps (provided by Mapbox), in addition to FM’s original C-Map chart;

Enhanced weather graphics, which can be overlaid over the map to provide situational awareness for planning and operations (provided by TideTech).

A new quick search feature, which allows users to search for a vessel and automatically locate it on the map or fleet list

Odfjell Tankers, a leading provider of ocean transportation of bulk liquid chemicals, acids, edible oils and other special products, uses Pole Star’s Fleet Management service to monitor its fleet. “Fleet Management has helped us to improve operational efficiency and achieve cost savings by monitoring the vessel’s positions and speed,” said Erik Hjortland, Manager of Fleet Performance at Odfjell Tankers. “We look forward to using the new interface and to the benefits that mobile access will bring.”

FM 2.0 uses new technologies that will improve performance and ease of use. The new interface has been built using HTML-5 for a clean, modern user experience and better mobile accessibility. It also uses responsive design, which means that the application is automatically optimised for the user’s screen size and orientation.

FM is an integrated fleet tracking solution that enables shipowners, operators and charterers to monitor their fleets accurately and reliably using the ship's Inmarsat-C or a dedicated Pole Star terminal. Fleet Management is currently used to track more than 6,500 vessels.
