Manuport Logistics, Antwerp based forwarder, will manage and optimize Metallo Chimique’s container logistics as from mid May.
The new logistics concept will see the majority of containers, about 4500 TEU annually, shift from road transport to inland navigation. Ken Joris, Manuport Logistics Global Commercial Director, explains the concept: “Manuport Logistics has developed the framework and will manage Metallo Chimique’s container flows. From/to the main seaports of Antwerp and Rotterdam, we will be arranging the inland navigation connection over DP World’s Beverdonk Container Terminal, using the barge services of Euroports Containers Meerhout. Connecting the inland terminal to the Metallo site in Beerse, is a truck service arranged and developed by Transport Joosen. This unique concept is the result of a real and open partnership between all stakeholders. Mc Andrews and Delphis enabled the short-sea volume to shift to the water by appointing BCT as inland depot for their boxes. In a next phase we target to implement the same concept for Metallo’s deepsea flows.”
Metallo Chimique Logistic Manager Kim Pinxteren is confident this new set-up will deliver substantial support to Metallo Chimique’s business: “Sustainable growth, both in our production and transport activities are very important to us. That, combined with the sound, all-round, competitive and flexible logistics concept Manuport Logistics is offering, convinced us to switch to this inland navigation set-up. We are sure it will add value to our business and that it will further reduce our carbon footprint.”
