The Glasgow Climate Pact agreed at COP26 last year specifically targeted the phasing out of the use of coal to significantly lower CO2 emissions.
“To support this transition, vessels commercially managed by EPS will follow a No Coal Cargo Policy,” the shipping company said in its ESG policy.
EPS said it had it not carried any coal on its commercially managed dry bulk fleet since April 2020.
Cyril Ducau, CEO of EPS said: “In January, 2022 we made this best practice official by implementing a No Coal Cargo Policy. With a significant portion of our commercially managed fleet being in the dry bulk segment, we aim to play a small part in making one of the world’s worst pollutants that much harder to access.”
EPS moves 26m tonnes of dry cargo annually according to the report.
