A fire onboard a Liberian-registered tanker anchored in Singapore port on Tuesday evening was extinguished.

The Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said smoke was observed at the accommodation area around 10pm local time onboard the tanker which was empty at the time of the incident.

“An MPA patrol craft and four Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) marine fire-fighting and rescue vessels were dispatched to render assistance. The fire was put under control shortly after,”

The port authority said all the crew were reported to be safe and there was no pollution as a result of the fire. It added that port operations were not disrupted.

“MPA takes a serious view of safety incidents in the Port of Singapore. Firm actions on vessel and personnel may be taken, including detention of vessel, if vessel is found not in compliance with the necessary safety regulations,” MPA stated.
