“Andrew was a charismatic and inspirational figure who was a true professional and made a huge contribution to our company and to the industry. But we will first and foremost remember him as a true friend and colleague who showed amazing courage and dignity throughout his illness. All of us at Seatrade are deeply saddened by this great loss,” said Seatrade chairman Chris Hayman.
He was appointed as a director of Seatrade in 1996. His career, spanning 30 years has always been in shipping and media.
Before Seatrade, he worked in a wide variety of roles for shipping companies, Atlantic Steam Navigation Company and Transport Ferry Sevices of Felixstowe. He then moved into the newspaper publishing business, working first for the Eastern Counties Newspapers Group, UK and then for Lloyd’s of London Press.
For the last 17 years, he has been active in developing Seatrade’s products and brand all over the world. ‘He was involved in publishing, conferences and exhibitions and global award schemes and has been a motivational leader of colleagues in the UK and in the Americas, Middle East and Asia,’ commented Hayman. ‘He loved travelling and meeting colleagues and business associates face to face, many of whom became firm friends. We will miss him greatly and send our sincere condolences to his family.’
In the last five years, he has been spearheading Seatrade’s development in Singapore and wider Asia, and has made a massive contribution to the development of our online business.
Andrew was also an ardent sportsman, playing semi-professional football up until his early 40s, which earned mention in the local press, as well as cycling, canoeing, cricket, tennis and golf. He was also fully involved in his family’s equestrian activities.
Andrew is survived by his wife Susan and two daughters Eleanor (24) and Meghan (21).
