Vale to strengthen cooperation with Jiangsu on port development

The world largest iron ore supplier Vale’s Beijing representative met with the Transportation Department of Jiangsu Province, China with an aim of strengthening the bilateral cooperation.

The two parties discussed the opportunities to jointly develop Lianyungang port and other Yangtze river ports in Jiangsu.

The Transportation Department of Jiangsu will support Vale’s business locally and develop the port of Lianyungang to be one of the major bases for iron ore distribution of Vale, said the department.

Jiangsu is accelerating its construction of the 300,000 tonnes-class shipping channel and upgrading the 400,000 tonnes-class berth to improve its handling capacity for very large ore carriers (VLOC).

In 2014, Lianyungang port inked Memorandum of Understanding with Tubarão port of Vale to co-operate on break bulk cargo shipping routes operation and iron ore trading.
