Hanoi: Dung Quat Shipbuilding Co. has signed an in principle agreement to build a 115,000-ton oil tanker for Vinashin Ocean Shipping Co, state media said, marking another milestone in the fast evolution of Vietnamese shipbuilding. The tanker, measuring 249.9m long, 44m wide and 21.6m high and capable of traveling at 15.2 nautical miles an hour, will be used to carry crude oil, refined oil and chemicals. The ship is dual classed by ABS and the Vietnam Register and will be delivered in December 2008. Vinashin has a backlog in excess of $6bn. [11/01/07]
