Taiwan: Evergreen Line has revealed that it is to cooperate with the National Central University in Taiwan and Cambridge University in the UK on the Pacific Greenhouse Gases Measurement (PGGM) project.
Data from Evergreen containerships will be combined with data gathered from FORMOSAT3/COSMIC satellites and commercial aircrafts to build a three-dimensional distribution of greenhouse gases over the Pacific. Information from two specific Evergreen routes will be collected: Europe to Asia and Asia to Australia with the data recorder to be fitted on a S-type vessel and a P-type vessel. Installation of the instruments will take place in late 2008.
This data will be used by scientists to help estimate the total emissions of greenhouse emissions in the Pacific region and represents one of the key contributions from Taiwan in the context of global warming and climate change. [11/06/08]
