Greece tops global shipowning by fleet value
Greece is the world’s largest shipowning nation by the value of ships owned, followed by Japan and China.

According to VesselsValue.com the Greek fleet is worth $101bn, comprising roughly 15% of the global fleet by value which it put at $659.6bn.

The biggest component of the Greek fleet was bulkers valued at $43.4bn, followed by tankers at $33.7bn VesselsValues.com said in a report. Containerships, LNG and LPG carriers in the Greek fleet had a combined value of $23.8bn.

The world’s second largest shipowning nation by value was Japan with a fleet valued at $89.1bn. Bulkers form more than half of the nation’s fleet by value and are worth $50.6bn.

In third place by value was the China owned fleet valued at $72.7bn, with bulkers again more than half of the fleet with a total worth of $40.7bn.

The fourth and fifth largest shipowning countries by fleet value were Germany with a fleet value of $53.2bn and Singapore with $30.4bn.
