Two build-to-stock 5,150 bhp anchor handling towing supply (AHTS) vessels were sold to Icon Offshore, a offshore support vessel (OSV) player in Malaysia, and four build-to-order emergency response and rescue vessels were sold to a Singapore-based company that provides ship management and chartering services.
“In just the first three months of this year, we have seen robust sales indicative of strong industry momentum in the region and globally. With the contract win, Nam Cheong's orderbook to date stands at MYR1.3bn ($419.2m),” said Leong Seng Keat, executive director of Nam Cheong.
Leong added that the market for small size AHTS vessels remains buoyant, especially within the Malay basin being in the shallow water region.
“We are seeing demand for new businesses relating to top side maintenance, hook up and commissioning, and the exploitation of reserve, as well as the need for older vessels to be replaced with new and higher specification ones,” he said.
The six vessels are scheduled for delivery between the second quarter of 2013 and the fourth quarter of 2014.
