Petredec has placed a firm order for two 84,000 cu m VLGCs with options for two more at the South Korean yard, with delivery expected in 2015 and 2016.
Petredec said the ships would the first to have HHI’s “ultra-modern eco-design”. “These ships will usher in a new era at Petredec as we upgrade our fleet to further enhance efficiencies and economy of our operation,” said Giles Fearn, Petredec chief executive.
The vessels will have a “Eco” notation from Lloyd’s Register and will be fitted with Hyundai MAN ME type engines. The cargo plant has been designed by Babcock LGE Process which incorporates a patented vent cool system which will allow faster cargo loading whilst reducing power consumption.
Petredec controls a fleet over 50 gas carriers and delivers over 10m tonnes of LPG annually. The company is taking delivery of three VLGC newbuildings from HHI this year.
