Two of the vessels to be built will be used for offshore platform decommissioning and a third will be used for the transport of dismantled parts.
The three DP3 vessels will be deployed to dismantle fixed offshore platforms in the UK North Sea, according to CIMC Raffles.
The Chinese firm said the global decommissioning market offers huge opportunities in the Gulf of Mexico, the North Sea, Southeast Asia, Brazil and other key offshore oilfield locations. The market for decommissioning has become more active as many offshore platforms are nearing end of life.
SDTM, established in August 2014, is a joint venture between Norway’s marine heavy lift contractor Twin Marine Heavylift and China’s Shandong Shipping Corporation of Qingdao.
