Singapore shippers warned to 'remain vigilant'
Singapore: Singapore National Shippers' Council (SNSC) warned shippers to remain vigilant amid a shipping market oversupplied with capacity and slowing global economic growth.

John Lu, re-elected as chairman of SNSC last Wednesday, spoke about the uncertain economic climate and the challenges they pose for shippers.

“Even as growth eased, new ships continued to be delivered to an already saturated market, triggering a wave of realignments amongst industry players. As shippers we must remain vigilant to ensure that such arrangements remain purely operational,” Lu said.

“Domestically, we have continued our capacity building training programmes. In collaboration with Supply Chain Asia, a pan Asian logistics community, we are rolling out targeted training programmes at the Singapore Shippers' Academy which will equip students to operate in this increasingly complex trading environment.”

Lu added that SNSC is working through the Asian Shippers' Council and the Global Shippers' Forum to address the challenges.
