The painstaking work to discharge containers from storm damaged ONE Apus are set continue on Tuesday at the Port of Kobe after a break over the Japanese New Year holiday.

Between 11 and 29 December 2020 some 129 containers were successfully discharged from the 14,000 teu vessel operated by Ocean Network Express (ONE).

Discharge operations are set to resume on 5 January, however, are expected to slower than previously. “The operation and inspection will be resumed on 5th January 2021 with slower speed and special safety case as the vessel on-deck to be repaired simultaneously,” ONE said in a customer advisory.

The ONE Apus was estimated to have lost 1,816 containers when it hit severe weather in the Pacific on 30 November, of which 64 were dangerous goods containers. Operations to remove damaged, and still intact boxes from the vessel started on 11 December 2020 in the Port of Kobe.
