Baltic Exchange sees growth in Asia

The Baltic Exchange is continuing to see growth in its Asian membership, one of its fastest growing regions.

The Baltic Exchange is owned by SGX in Singapore and headquartered in the UK and the strong connections between the two countries in maritime were underscored at reception by the Baltic Exchange in Singapore on Wednesday evening.

The reception was held at Eden Hall, official residence of the British High Commissioner to Singapore, and the first business reception to be held at the historic venue since the onset of the pandemic in 2020.

Speaking to guests from the shipping industry at the reception Lu Su Ling, Head of Baltic Exchange Asia, said that it now had 70 members in Singapore and 200 across Asia. She said Asia was one of the Baltic’s fastest growing region’s and now accounted for 30% of its membership up from 20% five years ago.

British High Commissioner to Singapore Kara Owen highlighted the Baltic Exchange as one of the best examples of collaboration between Singapore and the UK.

Continuing on the theme of collaboration High Commissioner Owens talked about the two countries working together on clean maritime solutions and initiatives such as Green Corridors.

Not surprisingly Lu also made reference to Singapore’s recent top-ranking in the Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Centre Development Index for the ninth consecutive year since the report’s inception.
