Indian shipowner Transworld Group is continuing to grow its dry bulk fleet with acquisition of a handysize vessel.

Transworld has acquired the Japanese-built, 38,215 dwt handysize bulker Asahi Maru to be renamed TBC Passion.

It follows the recent acquisition of another 38,000 dwt Japanese owned handysize bulker Turquoise Ocean, which has been renamed TBC Prime.

“The capex investments are a result of the company’s strong belief in the bulk carrier markets and specifically the smaller workhorse handies,” Transworld said.

Traditionally known as a container feeder operator the latest deals bring Transworld’s dry bulk fleet up to five vessels. The company said it was keeping its eye on the sale and purchase market for further opportunities in the segment.
