Wärtsilä Corporation has inked a license and co-operation agreement for future sales and servicing of Silverstream’s air lubrication system.

With the agreement Wärtsilä plans to offer the Silverstream System as part of its solutions for newbuild vessels for compliance with EEDI requirements, as well as for retrofits where the Finnish company is the primary provider.

The Silverstream System has been proven to reduce fuel consumption and related air emissions by 5 – 10%.

Under the agreement Silverstream’s customers will have access to Wärtsilä’s service network in over 70 countries for maintenance of their systems.

Noah Silberschmidt, ceo of Silverstream Technologies, said: “Today’s agreement with Wärtsilä reinforces our position as the shipping industry’s leading clean technology manufacturer. In Wärtsilä we find a partner as committed as we are to achieving a cleaner, more efficient and sustainable maritime industry.”

Lars Anderson, director, propulsion, Wärtsilä Marine, commented: “Today’s agreement enables us to facilitate the building of better vessels that meet tomorrow’s challenges today, and Silverstream are the ideal partners to help us realise this goal.”
