Four shipowners in Asia have jointly ordered seven LNG carries from Hyundai Heavy Industries under long-term time-charter contract with QatarEnergy.

The four owners, MISC Berhad, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line), and China LNG Shipping, have established joint venture company for the construction of seven 174,000 cubic meter LNG carriers at a total cost of $1.5bn.

Equipped with an X-DF 2.1 iCER and air lubrication system, the vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2025 and 2026, and will be operated under partnership of the four owners after delivery.

The award of the chartering deal is the latest in a series of contracts that QatarEnergy has signed to implement its LNG expansion projects.

In April this year, China’s CSSC Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding secured the first batch of four LNG carriers construction order serving for QatarEnergy’s over 100 LNG carrier expansion programme.
