SAL Heavy Lift adds newbuild at Wuhu Shipyard

Hamburg-headquartered SAL Heavy Lift expands its fleet with a new ultra-efficient heavy-left vessel, the Orca Class, at China’s Wuhu Shipyard.

Hamburg-headquartered SAL Heavy Lift has exercised an option for a new ultra-efficient heavy-left vessel at Chinas Wuhu Shipyard.

The new deal brings the total number of this new generation fleet of ultra-efficient heavy-lift vessels, the Orca Class, on order up to five at Wuhu Shipyard which is scheduled for delivery in mid-2025.

The 14,600dwt Orca Class heavy-lift vessels are equipped with two electric cranes of 800 mt lifting capacity, Ice-class A1 with dual-fuel methanol ready engine and ship-to-shore power connection, featuring low emissions, greener and more sustainable performance. 

SAL expects the five new buildings to promote sustainability and emission reduction in the maritime industry.
