DP World's Jebel Ali port achieves UN security standard

DP World's Jebel Ali port achieves UN security standard
The UAE's Jebel Ali Port is first in the Middle East to achieve United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) Certification - considered the benchmark for security management systems.

The certificate was awarded following an inspection visit to Jebel Ali by a team of UNDSS experts, who evaluated the security measures implemented by terminal operator DP World, with particular focus on emergency response plans, security awareness for staff, security briefings for security personnel and documentation procedures.

Mohammed Al Muallem, senior vice president and managing director, DP World, UAE Region, who received the certificate from two senior UNDSS officials, said: “Ensuring the safety and security of our people, our customers and assets is integral to DP World's commitment to safeguarding the national interests of the UAE.”

Tamer Hammouda, security advisor, UNDSS, on presenting the certificate, said the UN understood the challenges of providing security 24/7, 365 days a year, “particularly so for a regional logistics hub such as Jebel Ali with all its complexities. We are impressed by the high levels of safety and security we found implemented at Jebel Ali Port, even exceeding standards set by UNDSS in some areas.”

DP World Jebel Ali is also certified under the independently audited ISO28000 security management standard; being rolled out throughout DP World's global network.

DP World is the only international port operator to have been certified as a partner in the Customs-Trade Partnership against Terrorism (C-TPAT) initiative by US Customs and Border Patrol.

The UNDSS oversees the UN's security management system and its workincludes setting  standards for best practice security policies and operational procures systems.
