New Priok Container Terminal One (NPCT1) has marked the key milestone of achieving 1m teu throughput in less than 18 months after commencement of commercial operation in August 2016.

NPCT1 attributed its success to strong support from customers, shipping lines and cargo owners, as well as the various stakeholders such as Customs, Quarantine, the port authority, associations, Immigration, the Police, the local communities, and its various contractors, among others.

"Customer satisfaction continues to be our top priority." emphasised president-director Makoto Saito in a press release. "Hence, NPCT1 will always strive to improve our level of quality services utilizing modern and high-quality terminal facilities and infrastructure, which is supported by professional human resources.  We are proud to announce the highest container loading and unloading productivity in Jakarta (28 Box/Crane/Hour)," he added, noting that NPCT1 has an annual capacity of 1.5m and can handle large container vessels.

The container terminal has eight Super Post-Panamax twin lift quay cranes and 20 rubber tyred gantry cranes, both of which are electrically driven, which contributes to emission reduction and supports NPCT1's concept of being a Go-Green, environment-friendly terminal. It also implements strict security and safety control system to secure the safety of terminal workers and the security of cargo.

The new terminal also has an excellent safety record, achieving more than three million working hours without Loss Time Injury (LTI) since it began operations in August 2016. NPCT1 is committed to improve the efficiency of cargo flows in export and import activities for the sustainable growth of Indonesia through supporting international trade, Saito concluded.

NPCT1 is the first phase in the development of the expansion plan for Indonesia's main port of Tanjung Priok called New Priok. The terminal is owned by Indonesian state-owned port operator Pelindo II, Mitsui & Co, PSA International and NYK Line.
