Dalian-based Hengli Heavy Industry has inked a shipbuilding contract with Sea Traders, owned by major Greek shipowner George Procopiou, for the construction of 10 Kamsarmax bulk carriers.

The 82,000 dwt bulk carriers contract refreshes Hengli’s single largest newbuild order record, further strengthens the company’s position in global shipbuilding market, commented Hengli.

George Procopiou owns three shipping units of Sea Traders, Dynacom Tankers Management Dynagas, operating a fleet of more than 170 ships mainly servicing for bulk and crude oil transportation.

It is the first deal made between Sea Traders and Hengli, and the company is looking forward to establish a long-term strategic partner relationship with Hengli, said George Procopiou, founder of Sea Traders.

Hengli took over the yard formerly run by bankrupt STX Dalian. Since commercial operations started in January this year, Hengli has secured several batches of newbuild contracts mainly covering bulk carriers and containerships.
