Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation has inked a shipbuilding contract for six methanol-fuelled tankers with Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry.

Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation has inked a shipbuilding contract for six methanol-fuelled tankers with Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry.

Three 114,200 dwt methanol-fuelled Aframax tankers will be constructed by Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry’s yard in Yangzhou. Measuring in 248.8 metres long and 44 metres wide, the vessels are the first methanol dual-fuel vessel orders placed by the shipping company.

A pair of methanol-ready 64,900 dwt Panamax tankers and a 50,000 dwt MR tanker will be built by Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry’s yard in Dalian.

“To promote green and low-carbon energy-powered vessel development and improve competitiveness, the company is upgrading fleet via the investment in methanol-fuelled vessel, an exploration and practice on clean energy vessel market,” said Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation.

Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation operates the world’s largest tanker fleet. As the end of the first half of 2023, the company owmed 154 tankers, having a total carrying capacity of 22.42 million dwt.
