Tanker owner Euronav has sold its two oldest suezmaxes for a $12.4m profit.

The company has sold the 2004-built, 159,048 dwt Cap Pierre and 2003-built, 159,048 dwt Cap Leon to an undisclosed buyer.

The company said both vessels were debt free and it made a combined capital gain of $12.4m on the transaction.

`’Our understanding is that at least one of the vessels will exit the global fleet to be deployed on storage contracts,” Euronav. This would remove at least one vessel from the global oceangoing suezmax fleet.

The sales will reduce the average age of Euronav’s fleet to 10.7 years from 11.4 years.
