The shuttle tankers contract is for a maximum of 20 years starting from the fourth quarter of 2016, according to Japan’s Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), which owns 50% stake in Knot.
The two 158,000 dwt, DP-capable suezmax tankers, to be built by South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), will shuttle crude oil produced in waters off Brazil. BG owns interests in oil and gas fields in the waters off Brazil and is one of the major players in that area.
Upon the start of the contract, the Knot Group will have 30 shuttle tankers in operation or on order.
