The US Navy has joined the search for 32 missing from collision between an NITC tanker and a bulker off Shanghai at the weekend.

The US Navy has sent a P-8A aircraft to help search for the 32 seafarers missing from the tanker Sanchi, which caught fire after it collided with the bulker CF Crystal on 6 January.

The fire on the tanker continued to burn on Monday according to reports with fears growing over the amount of oil spilled from its 136,000 tonne of oil condensate. Video of the burning tanker from CGTN can be viewed below -

The aircraft from the US Navy joins eight vessels from the Chinese authorities and a coastguard vessel and an aircraft from Korea.

"The Chinese government attaches great importance to the accident," Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said Sunday, adding that the cause of the accident is still under investigation, the Shanghai Daily reported.
