Breakthrough LNG containment system from DSME

Breakthrough LNG containment system from DSME

Seoul: Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering has developed the world's largest independent-type LNG cargo containment system, named as 'ACT-IB(Aluminum Cargo Tank - Independent type B). The system, which is essential for LNG carriers and LNG-FPSO vessels, is said to have the largest storage capacity among the independent type containment systems. DSME will apply this technology to its LNG-FPSOs, which produce over 2m tones of LNG per annum.

This new system can contain a maximum of 210,000cu mtr of LNG, three times more than a conventional containment system of about 80,000cu mtr. The development of the 'ACT-IB' system means that DSME no longer has to pay a technology royalty to French or Japanese LNG containment system patent holders. The new technology can be immediately adopted for use in LNG carriers or floating facilities, saving the company a significant amount of royalty expenses.  [02/06/10]
