Busan: Busan has recieved the first North Korean freight vessel to anchor at the port since the division of the Korean Peninsula more than five decades ago. Although North Korean vessels have called at other ports in South Korea, this particular call was also important as it marked the start of a regular route for the vessel, which will operate three trips a month between Busan Port and Nampo Port.
The vessel, 1,853 ton Kang Sung (pictured), called at pier six at Gamcheon Harbour yesterday where she unloaded 60 empty containers then made her way to Najin Port in North Korea at the same day. The new route comes on the heels of predictions by analysts of increases in cargo traffic between the two countries. [22/05/07]
