ClassNK gets double boost from German flag and government
ClassNK has registered its first German-flagged vessel and received wider authorisation from the German flag to vet its ships.

The 6,668 gt Berem Fortuna has been transferred to the Japanese class society's register, making Rörd Braren Breederungs the owners of the world's only German-flagged vessel on ClassNK's books.

During a ceremony in Hamburg to mark the transfer, Rörd Braren, managing partner of Rörd Braren Breederungs was joined by ClassNK chairman and president Noboru Ueda in celebrating the move.

"ClassNK is deeply honored to be chosen to provide classification services for the M.V. Bremer Fortuna," Ueda commented.

ClassNK has targeted Germany for growth and has registration applications from over 170 German-owned ships and new buildings since opening its Survey Operations base in Hamburg in 2011.

The German government has authorised ClassNK to survey and audit German flagged vessels for ISPS compliance, expanding on the authorisation ClassNK earned in 2013 to class German-flagged ships and issue certificates on the government's behalf.

Speaking to representatives of the German government responsible for ship security, Ueda said: "I would like to assure you that ClassNK will keep on providing the best quality services and continue contributing to the German maritime industry."
