DSME & HHI bag Wilh. Wilhelmsen and Wallenius Lines LCTC order

Seoul: Wilh. Wilhelmsen (WW) and Wallenius Lines (OW) has signed contracts with Hyundai Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (pictured) for the construction of four large car and truck carriers (LCTC) at each yard. Seven of the vessels will be delivered in 2011 and one will be delivered in 2012.

The LCTCs, to be deployed in WW and OW's joint venture Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics' global trade, will each be 228mtrs long and have a car carrying capacity of 8,000 units. The vessels are to have environment-friendly technology, aimed at reducing emissions to the air and to the sea.

"These contracts are true to our strategy of strengthening our unique market position through the building of advanced vessels specially designed to meet our customers' needs", says WW group chief executive Ingar Skaug. "The orders will contribute to meet our continuous need to expand the fleet and also to secure our position in emerging markets."

WW and OW are currently pursuing an extensive newbuilding programme and have a group order book comprising 45 vessels to be delivered through 2012.  [25/02/08]
