Tokyo: Japanese shipping line Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha ("K" Line) has announced that it has ordered 10 new 4500teu containerships at Korea-based Hyundai Heavy Industries. In a statement, the company said, "This particular type vessel has been newly designed by HHI based on our requirements, having same loading capacity as Panamax-max type containerships (nominal capacity 5100teu) but equipped with even better drive."
These new medium-sized containerships are to replace current 3500teu containerships deployed on K Line network such as East-West Trunk line trades, West/South Asia service and North/South Trade.
"They will be catering to additional increase in cargo movements as well as provide even further improvements in both service quality and competitiveness of our company's constantly expanding fleet," the company added.
Delivery of the containerships is scheduled to begin in 2010. [23/07/07]
