Keppel bags $221.9m ice-class MPV for New Orient Marine
Keppel Singmarine has secured a contract to build an ice-class multi-purpose vessel for New Orient Marine worth around SGD265m ($221.9m).

The Keppel Offshore and Marine subsidiary has scheduled the vessel for delivery to the Luxembourg-based Maritime Construction Services subsidiary in the middle of 2017.

The vessel will be equipped with class three dynamic positioning and dive support capabilities, with Ice Class Arc 5 notation for operations in temperatures down to minus 30 degress celsius. Keppel Singmarine now has four ice-class vessels in its orderbook.

Knut Reinertz, director of Maritime Construction Services, said, "There is a demand for modern ice-class multi-purpose vessels in the market and we believe this new state-of-the art vessel we are building with Keppel Singmarine is ideally suited to meet this need. We are able to leverage our experience as operators and charterers, together with Keppel Singmarine's expertise and track record in the design and construction of ice-class vessels, to expand our service offerings with this kind of specialised vessel."
