The rig, scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2016, will be built to suit Caspian Sea's harsh environment condition.
The rig will be designed for a drilling depth of up to 40,000 feet and operations in 1,000 metres water depth. It will also be outfitted with an 800-metre self-contained eight-point mooring system to meet high wind speeds out at sea.
Keppel's yard in Azerbaijan, Caspian Shipyard Company, will carry out the fabrication, integration, testing and commissioning of the rig while its joint-venture yard with Socar, Baku Shipyard, will undertake part of the fabrication of the pontoons and columns.
“This is an important market with great potential which is why we have added another yard, Baku Shipyard, to our capabilities here,” said Tong Chong Heong, ceo of Keppel O&M.
